UNDATED (AP) — Kansas senior guard Ochai Agbaji is the unanimous pick as The Associated Press Big 12 player of the year. His is the league's leading scorer at 19.8 points a game and shoots nearly 48 percent from the field. Agbaji is joined on the first team by Baylor guard James Akinjo, Iowa State guard Izaiah Brockington, Kansas State sophomore guard Nijel Pack and Texas Tech forward Bryson Williams. First-year Texas Tech head coach Mark Adams was picked as the league’s top coach in a close vote. Adams got eight votes, one more than Baylor coach Scott Drew.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Five different schools have played in the last three Big 12 title games, and three different schools have walked away with a trophy: Texas last season, Iowa State three years ago and Kansas the year before that. And no school has won back-to-back titles since the Cyclones won the 2014 and ’15 editions before their typical raucous crowds. This year’s tournament figures to be just as wide open. The Jayhawks are the No. 1 seed but defending national champion Baylor is lurking as the No. 2 and Texas Tech is seeded third under new coach Mark Adams. The tourney begins Wednesday night.
UNDATED (AP) — This week's tournaments in major conferences offer AP Top 25 teams their last chances to impact their potential NCAA Tournament seeds. The list includes No. 3 Baylor and No. 6 Kansas from the Big 12 vying for 1-seeds in the NCAA Tournament. The same is true in the Southeastern Conference with No. 4 Auburn and No. 5 Kentucky. The Atlantic Coast, Big 12, Big East and Pac-12 tournaments all run through Saturday. The Big Ten and SEC both go to Selection Sunday.
UNDATED (AP) — College baseball is poised to gain fans if the Major League Baseball lockout extends deep into the spring. The college game has experienced significant growth over the past decade with schools spending hundreds of millions of dollars to build new stadiums and facilities and increase coaching salaries. People in the game say the level of play is at an all-time high and will get even better because of the reduction of rounds in the MLB draft. The Shriners Children’s College Classic was played over the weekend at Minute Maid Park in Houston. A game between Texas and LSU attracted almost 25,000 fans.
UNDATED (AP) — A survey of more than 20,000 Nebraska fans showed nearly three-fourths want or would have no problem with alcohol sales in Memorial Stadium. More than half would be OK with sports wagering on site if it becomes legal someday. The athletic department in January sent surveys to more than 220,000 people who buy tickets or are otherwise connected to the university, and almost 22,000 completed them. University regents voted last month to allow campus leaders to decide whether to sell alcohol at sports venues.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Aaron Rodgers is planning to come back to the Green Bay Packers for an 18th season, a move that keeps the reigning MVP quarterback off the trade market and answers the question that had dominated NFL offseason discussions. NFL Network reported that the 38-year-old Rodgers had agreed to a four-year, $200 million contract that includes $153 million in guaranteed money. Rodgers said any reports of the contract terms are not accurate and that he has not signed a deal yet.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to trade star quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos in exchange for a package of draft picks and players. Wilson is a nine-time Pro Bowler who had just one losing season in Seattle. That was last year when he fractured the middle finger of his throwing hand. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade can not become official until March 16.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The Jacksonville Jaguars used their franchise tag on left tackle Cam Robinson for the second straight year. The move guarantees Robinson $16.6 million in 2022. It also potentially divulges Jacksonville’s plans for the No. 1 pick in next month’s NFL draft. If Robinson signs the one-year tender, his salary would be fully guaranteed next season. The sides also could still work to reach a long-term deal. With Robinson returning, it’s unlikely the Jaguars would draft an offensive tackle with the top pick. Instead, they’re more likely to go with a pass rusher.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers are putting a franchise tag on Davante Adams to prevent the two-time All-Pro receiver from becoming an unrestricted free agent. The Packers made the move today after MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers announced he’s planning to return to Green Bay for an 18th season. Any team would have had the opportunity to sign Adams when the free agency period opens March 16 if the Packers hadn’t tagged him. Adams and the Packers now have until July 15 to work out a long-term extension.
