Great Bend's Madison Regehr won a pair of medals at the Kansas State Track and Field Championships in Wichita last May. The senior can now put his entire focus on the track heading into his final season after signing a letter of intent to compete next year at Cloud County Community College in Concordia.
"This year, I definitely want to exceed everyone's expectations and be the most efficient version of myself I can be," Regehr said. "This offseason, (GBHS Coach Lyles) Lashley has pushed me to new heights time and time again, and helped me develop that 'dawg' mentality. I plan on finishing my senior season going into every meet knowing that I gave my all every time I stepped onto the track."
Regehr ran fifth in the Class 5A 300m hurdles at state, and three of the finishers in front of him have graduated. He picked up an eighth-place medal as the final leg on the Panther 4x400m relay, and he qualified for state in the 110m hurdles where he missed a spot in the finals after finishing 11th in the prelims. He's put in the work to improve across the board.
"He worked on his own a lot this offseason on improving hurdling with his left, so when he comes up on that he does better in the 300 hurdles," said Lashley. "We're excited about the hard work he put in. I expect really good things from him this year."
Regehr said he's excited to move from the red and black of Great Bend High School to the gold and black of Cloud County. The T-Birds finished sixth overall at last year's NJCAA Nationals.
"They've created a great program, and I'd love to be in an environment where everyone around me is striving for greatness," Regehr said. "Their head coach is a longtime friend of Coach Lashley, and with his and the rest of the coaching staff's guidance, I am very excited to see what I can achieve in the future."
