Each year, Great Bend High School Kayettes complete multiple service projects at the local, state, and international levels. On Oct. 27, the gals will knock out the international project by Trick-or-Treating for Hope. Kayettes raised $1,800 for UNICEF with the project last October, but sponsor Holly Johnson said this year's beneficiary of donations is Hope Worldwide.
"Hope Worldwide is an organization that collects money for communities that need help, and they go from one community to another," Johnson said. "For us, we actually do Hope Worldwide during the summer for Hope for the City. Technically, some of the money we collect could come back to help us in our community."
Most Kayettes will wear their costumes and trick-or-treat for donations on Thursday, Oct. 27 from 7-8 p.m. Money raised will help Hope Worldwide on its mission to provide food, shoes, socks, and other goods to communities in need after disaster strikes.
Johnson is also the GBHS Sponsor for Drama Club, which will be part of Treats at the Track on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 5-6:30 p.m. Various GBHS clubs and activities will be spread out around the track and football field, offering candy or fun activities for trick-or-treaters.
Drama Club will turn the area underneath the home bleachers into a spooky maze for older kids. Great Bend High School students will be joined by Nextech, the Great Bend Police Department, and maybe more for the new Halloween activity.
