The first Great Bend City Council meeting of November could be a short one, but a meaningful one. The only agenda item that requires action at tonight’s meeting pertains to employee health insurance rates.
Mike Minton and Arthur Gallagher will present the insurance item to the council. Their team has explored alternative health insurance provides for the city’s group health plan. However, due to several high-cost claims and overall increased utilization, no other carriers have presented viable options at this time. As a result, the recommendation will be for the city to continue its coverage through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas, and implementing an eight percent premium increase for both city and employee costs.
Other agenda items include councilmember reports, an update from City Administrator Logan Burns, and an Economic Development Report from Eco Devo President Jason Kuilan.
As a reminder, four council seats are up for grabs in Tuesday’s general election. Deklyn Craven and Gary Parr are on the ballot for Ward 1, Kevyn Soupiset, Russell Snyder, and Judy Duryee are on the ballot for Ward 2, Cody Harris and Layne Leuenberger are on the ballot for Ward 3, and Sue Cooper is the lone candidate for Ward 4.
Tonight’s Great Bend City Council meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.
