On Thursday, April 23 municipal workers will gather in Wichita for the annual Kansas Municipal Utilities conference. Attendees will hear about the latest issues and topics impacting their communities and utilities.

Great Bend Public Works Director Jason Cauley said there will also be an awards luncheon at the Hyatt Regency where the City of Great Bend’s Darren Doonan will be recognized as the Water Operator of the Year.

"Since he has been supervisor, he has done a stellar job," said Cauley. "I've been really proud of all the work he has been doing. We're really proud of him."

Doonan started with the city in April 2023 and was named water supervisor in August 2024.

The conference also offers informative sessions on issues impacting municipal electric, natural gas, water and wastewater utilities across the state.
