A fortunate first half bounce proved all the difference as the Barton Community College women's soccer team made the early break hold up Sunday evening, grinding out a 1-0 victory over Garden City Community College in the Plains District/Region 6 quarterfinals at the FHSU Soccer Complex.

Now 12-7-2 on the season, the Cougars advance to Wednesday's semifinal round at No. 7 and top seeded Cowley College in Arkansas City, while the Broncbusters close the year at 11-7-2.

Barton struck for the lone goal in the 25th minute, as Kayla Methman's free kick from near midfield placed into the box glanced off a Garden City defender and deflected back into the net for an own goal that stood as the difference.

The Cougar defense held firm the rest of the way, limiting Broncbuster chances throughout the night. Leonie Chambe recorded four saves to notch her second solo shutout of the season as both teams finished even in shots at 11-apiece.
