The Great Bend Recreation Commission will be hosting a free Stop ‘N Learn Session titled “History of Cheyenne Bottoms” on Wednesday, December 6, from 12:00 – 1:00 pm at the Great Bend Rec Activity Center (2715 18th Street).
So much history has happened at the marsh, from Indian battles, to greyhound racing, and use as a military bombing range. Participants will test their knowledge of the largest wetland complex in the interior of the United States with a Cheyenne Bottoms trivia game. Discover more about this natural area that was designated as a Ramsar Wetlands of International Importance in 1988 and is featured as one of the 8 Wonders of Kansas through actively solving clues to open a breakout box. Mandy Kern, KWEC Program Specialist, will be the speaker for the program.
A complete list of programs and class details can be found at the GBRC website at www.greatbendrec.com. Please contact the Recreation Commission office at 793-3755, ext 110, or stop by the office located at 1214 Stone Street for more information or with any questions you may have.
