Barton women's soccer rallies past Hastings developmental squad to close regular season

Posted Oct 26, 2026 3:37 PM

Facing a quick turnaround from Saturday's action, the Barton Community College women's soccer team made the Sunday trip to Hastings, Nebraska, returning with a 2-1 nonconference victory over the developmental squad of Hastings College.

The Cougars overcame an early deficit with a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes of the opening half before clamping down defensively over the final 45 minutes, snapping a three-match losing streak in the process.

Barton concludes the regular season at 4-6-8 overall, entering the Region 6/Plains District Tournament as the No. 6 seed with an opening-round matchup at third-seeded Hutchinson Community College. Official game details are expected to be announced in the coming days.

Hastings struck first with 18:11 remaining in the opening half, capitalizing on an uncleared ball following a set piece with a 16-yard strike into the upper 90 far post.

The advantage lasted just over nine minutes before Karina Pineda broke Barton's three-match scoreless drought of more than 336 minutes. Taking Ana Luiza Gori's through ball, Pineda delivered a top-shelf strike for her second goal of the season, pulling the Cougars even at the 35:42 mark.

Barton completed the comeback in dramatic fashion with just three seconds remaining before halftime. A nifty passing sequence began with Cydnee Adams finding Gwladys Dumont, who sent a forward ball from midfield into the path of a racing Ella Swift. Winning the race to the ball, Swift delivered the finish inside the near post for her team-leading eighth goal of the season and the eventual game-winner.
