The No. 8 ranked Barton Community College women's golf team opened its spring season on Monday, competing in the two-day Thunderbird Invitational held at Rockwind Community Links in Hobbs, New Mexico.
Hosted by No. 5 New Mexico Junior College, the Cougars placed 7th in a loaded field featuring six nationally ranked programs, shooting consistent 335 and 336 rounds in finishing at 95-over par (713).
Top-ranked Odessa College captured the team title by 12 strokes at 43-over (619), followed by No. 7 Weatherford College at 55-over (631) and the host Thunderbirds in third at 58-over (634).
Chomchanok Laparojkit led the Cougars overall, opening with a 78 before carding an 80 on Tuesday to finish tied for 13th in the 56-player field at 14-over par (158).
Diana Alvarado finished tied for 27th at 24-over (168) after rounds of 85 and 83, while Suri Rocha Orozco placed 32nd at 27-over (171) on cards of 84 and 87.
Making one of the tournament's biggest moves, Alexandria Hunt climbed into a tie for 33rd after rebounding from a 93 in Monday's opening round with a team second-best 79 on Tuesday, matching her collegiate-best round to finish at 28-over (172).
Four spots behind in 37th, Panalee Prachavittayagon finished at 30-over (174) with rounds of 88 and 86, and Giovanna Tabanag rounded out the Cougar lineup in 43rd at 35-over (179) following scores of 90 and 89.
The competitive season opener provides Barton nearly a month to fine-tune before conference play begins March 30–31 at KJCCC Meet No. 1, hosted at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course in Garden City, Kansas.
