It's a problem that's always existed in schools and elsewhere: bullying. Staff in the Great Bend school district wants its families to know it's an issue the district takes seriously. Family Engagement Coordinator Chuy Loera said all district families are invited to an informational All In with Parents event on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Great Bend Middle School.
"It's just information on how we respond," Loera said. "What takes place from the moment it's witnessed, or the moment it's reported to a counselor, a teacher, or an administrator, then what happens from that moment on."
Planned speakers include Jose Arias, family support from Lincoln Elementary, counselors from the middle school and high school, School Resource Officers Paul Millard and Ethan Thomas with the Great Bend Police Department, and district administration.
"We've put some work in between the family engagement coordinators, our migrant workers, and our family support team to make this event happen and provide this information to all those who attend," Loera said.
Each quarter, a different topic is selected for USD 428's All In with Parents events. Surveys were sent to district parents to help staff choose those topics. Light refreshments will be served at Wednesday's event.
