This year marks the 65th annual National Library Week in the United States. This yearly celebration is a time to celebrate the important role that libraries play in strengthening our communities.
To help the State Library do just that, Governor Laura Kelly has declared April 23-29 Kansas Library Week alongside the American Library Association’s National Library Week.
Most people know about the wealth of stories available at the library, from picture books and large print to audiobooks and eBooks. But there's so much more to the story of libraries in Kansas. From our State Library’s resources for government leadership and state agencies, the digital resources for all ages and interests, specialized reading materials for Kansans with a print disability, and support for librarians and educators to the smallest or most specialized library in the state, there is something at your library for everyone.
To celebrate, highlight and uplift not just the selection of stories but the people and places who bring them together for us all, Kansas Library Week will focus on a different facet of library life throughout the week.
Monday: Library History – Here at the State Library of Kansas, we will share historical trivia and get an up-close look (virtually) at the physical collection’s hidden gems. What’s the history of your library?
Tuesday: Library Workers Day – Recognizing staff contributions to keeping programs running is so important! Tag us @statelibraryofkansas on Facebook and Instagram so we can share some of that recognition!
Wednesday: Outreach Day – Show us your favorite event or activity from the last year, or maybe ever! It will be great to see everyone having fun!
Thursday: Throw Back Thursday is a round-up of everyone’s favorite childhood book. Be sure to tell us why it’s your favorite and/or who gave it to you!
Friday: Bookface Friday – Let’s see what you’ve got! Don’t forget to tag us!
This statewide celebration of all things library wouldn’t be complete without a reminder to register for your State Library eCard through your local library. Tag #kslib and #KSLibraryWeek in your stories.
