Great Bend City Administrator Logan Burns started out his report at Monday’s Great Bend City Council meeting with what he worded as "somber news." Burns announced that Public Works Director Jason Cauley is resigning in July to take a position with the City of Goddard. Cauley has been employed with Great Bend for the past 22 years.
"I would like to thank everybody for having faith in me to do this job," said Cauley. "I want to thank everyone underneath me. I couldn't do this by myself. We've done a lot of good work. I cannot take the credit for all of it by any means."
The city went over a year without a Public Works Director before Cauley was hired, unable to find the right candidate. Cauley was appointed Assistant Public Works Director in March 2020 and promoted to Director in January 2021.
"I will miss the City of Great Bend," said Cauley. "It's been my home for 22 years. We moved here when my daughter was a few weeks old. It has worked parallel with her growing up as well."
Cauley’s last day with the City of Great Bend will be July 2.
