Golden Harvest Thrift Store, a ministry of Catholic Charities of Southwest Kansas, will celebrate its first anniversary with a special community celebration from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at 2410 Main St. in Great Bend
The anniversary event is a way to thank the community for its incredible support over the past year. Customers can enjoy special anniversary discounts, door prizes, and refreshments throughout the day.
Since opening its doors one year ago, community members have made more than 1,800 donations, helping nearly 90,000 items find new homes instead of ending up in a landfill. Volunteers have also contributed more than 5,680 hours sorting donations, stocking shelves, and serving customers.
Over the past year, Golden Harvest Thrift Store has become more than just a place to shop for affordable, quality items. Through generous donations and customer support, the store helps fund the mission of Catholic Charities Southwest Kansas while providing a welcoming, dignified shopping experience.
Director of Thrift Store Operations Rebecca Ford said the past year has been one of the most exhilarating and rewarding of her career as she watched the community rally behind the store from the very beginning.
"We're incredibly grateful for the support we've received during our first year," Ford said. "This celebration is our opportunity to thank our customers, donors, volunteers, and community partners for helping make Golden Harvest Thrift Store a success."
The community’s response has been so positive that Catholic Charities is preparing to open a second Golden Harvest Thrift Store in Garden City, with hopes of expanding to additional communities in the future.
