The Barton County Landfill solicited bids to provide diesel fuel for their operations for a year. This year, the Landfill received two bids, one from United Ag Service out of Gorham, Kansas and the other from American Plains Co-op, out of Great Bend.

Solid Waste Director Jennifer Hamby told Barton County Commissioner Duane Reif and the rest of the Commission that the bid from United Ag Service was 27 cents cheaper per gallon at $2.485.

"For the public, they may not realize United Ag Service has four locations in Barton County," said Reif. "They're in Galatia, Olmitz, Hoisington and Stitka. We're doing this locally. The fuel does come out of Galatia."

The Commission approved the diesel fuel bid from United Ag Service, a deal beginning July 1, 2025 and extending through June 30, 2026. The agreement is to purchase 25,000 gallons of diesel during that time period. Over the 25,000 gallons, the United Ag Service’s bid will save the County approximately $6,625 compared to the American Plains offer.
