From the Pour House to Sarge’s Saloon. The bar on north Main Street in Great Bend has changed names, and the new ownership has hopes of adding on to the establishment in the future.
Partners Lloyd Lewis II, Kym Lewis and Will Thayer
took over ownership of the bar on Aug. 1, but the idea of managing a
bar started years ago for Lloyd Lewis. Lewis spent 34 years with the Barton
County Sheriff’s Office before retiring to pursue this new endeavor.
"It's been a work in progress," said Lewis. "It's not anything we did over night. There's been a lot of planning and bookwork. There's a lot of paperwork with this, especially when you're dealing with ABC, the Kansas tax department and we're trying to bring the lottery in here too."

Lewis’ plan was by purchasing the Pour House, there is already a working staff.
That plan includes construction additions to the back, or west side, of the
bar.
"Years ago we bought everything that was inside the old Montana Mike's," said Lewis. "We bought all the kitchen gear and barstools. Eventually, we plan to turn this into a lot bigger facility with eight or nine pool tables, dance floor and a place for bands. Basically, something that Great Bend doesn't have right now except for going into private clubs."
Lewis spent the last 14 years at the Sheriff’s Office serving as a sergeant. He
was also a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, so renaming the bar to
Sarge’s Saloon just made sense.
