Opening day for the Wetlands Waterpark in Great Bend is generally the Saturday before Memorial Day. With high school state track and state baseball and softball positioned at the end of the month this year that could potentially tie up several lifeguards and staff for the pool.
Great Bend City Administrator Logan Burns said the worst case scenario is to have the pool open on Memorial Day, May 26.
Great Bend continues to research the possibility of a multi-million-dollar bond to pay for a new pool.
"I should be receiving proposals for the pool about which route we're taking for sizing and scope by the end of the week from JEO," said Burns. "Then I'll send those out to the council to see what our next steps are."
The large pool was constructed in 1936 and the addition of the large water slides arrived in 2005. Discussion with the Great Bend City Council earlier this spring suggested pool construction in 2026 with a new pool finished by 2027.
