James “Jim” Albert Conley, 76, died Jan. 5, 2024, at his home in Great Bend. He was born Oct. 6, 1947, in Seminole, Texas, the son of Albert and Mahota J. (Blackerby) Conley. He moved to Great Bend in 1981, coming from Oklahoma. Jim worked in the oilfield for many years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and could tell fish stories with the best of them. He had a passion for making lures and if you were lucky enough to receive them, consider yourself a true friend.
Jim married Vera (Staudinger) Patterson in 1983, and were divorced later, however remained close friends. They spent many days fishing and picking sandhill plums. He is survived by Vera Conley; two sons, Jimmy Conley of Canada, and Jordan Conley (Laurel) of Texas; stepchildren, Karen Herl (Glenn), Keith Patterson (Cindy), Connie Piland, Cathy Crain (Tracy), Kevin Patterson (Lori); nieces, Rachel, Catherine and Sarah; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Joann Imes; and nephew, Jonathan Imes.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024, at St. Patrick Parish Center, St. Patrick Catholic Church, 4100 Broadway Ave., Great Bend.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Barton County Food Bank or Elder Care, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
