In June, the Great Bend City Council approved an ordinance that
addressed the issue when a councilmember or mayor does not attend meetings. The
ordinance states if an elected official fails to attend four consecutive
regular meetings, without an excuse accepted by the governing body, the person
will be deemed as resigning.
Brock McPherson, 4th Ward councilmember, has missed the past 15
meetings. Dec. 5, 2022 was the last meeting McPherson
attended.
The city council will be presented a motion Monday, Aug. 7 to declare the position
vacant and begin the process of finding a suitable appointment to fill the
vacancy. The council meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
The vacancy will be filled by an elector from Ward 4.
