Kan. man hospitalized after pickup strikes semi involved in crash

THOMAS COUNTY —One person was injured in an accident just after 6a.m. Thursday in Thomas County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2024 GMC Sierra driven by Alvaro Gutierrez Valadez, 29, Ness City, was westbound on Interstate 70 five miles east of the Kansas 184 exit.

The pickup struck the middle of a 2018 Freightliner semi trailer involved in an earlier accident that was blocking both westbound lanes.

EMS transported a passenger in the pickup Reyes Tavarez-Vidales, 41, Ness City, to Citizens Medical Center.  The semi driver Ahmed Mensur  Adem, 54, Dallas, Texas, Valadez and a second passenger in the pickup were not injured. All four were properly restrained, according to the KHP.
