
A trio of nationally ranked individuals from the 13th ranked Barton Community College women's golf team closed out the season Thursday, competing at the NJCAA Division I Women's Golf National Championships held at Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley, Illinois.
Ranked among the nation's top 65 individuals, No. 56 Panalee Prachavittayagon, No. 60 Chomchanok Laparojkit, and No. 65 Suri Rocha Orozco represented the Cougars in the four-day championship, with all three finishing inside the top 60 of the 94-player field.
Prachavittayagon paced Barton with a tie for 44th place, carding a 47-over-par 331 on rounds of 85, 81, 82, and 83. Laparojkit followed in a tie for 49th at 50-over 334 (84-81-86-83), while Rocha Orozco placed in a tie for 58th at 56-over 340 (89-83-85-83).
After opening the tournament in 57th, 53rd, and 71st place, respectively, Prachavittayagon, Laparojkit, and Rocha Orozco each climbed the leaderboard over the final three rounds. Prachavittayagon made the biggest move, improving 13 sports to lead the Barton trio, while Rocha Orozco also gained 13 positions from her opening round standing. Laparojkit moved up four places from her first-round finish.
Laparojkit and Prachavittayagon each posted the Cougars' lowest round of the week with second-round 10-over par 81s. Rocha Orozco turned in her best score with a 12-over 83 in the second round before matching that total in Thursday's final round.
