Demolition work on the former hospital building in Ellinwood is scheduled to begin July 20, immediately following the conclusion of the After Harvest Festival weekend.
Prior to demolition, asbestos abatement work is expected to begin this week as part of the site preparation process. The demolition project will be completed by Eakin Construction of Larned and is anticipated to take approximately 7–8 business days to complete.
While the building itself will be removed, several site features will remain intact, including the mature trees surrounding the property, existing sidewalks, and off-street parking areas.
Following demolition, the land will be offered for sale for future development opportunities.
Hospital leadership noted that the project marks the end of an important chapter in the community’s healthcare history while also creating opportunities for future growth and revitalization.
More information regarding the demolition timeline and future plans for the property will be shared as it becomes available.
