With a few days left before the filing deadline, there is one contested race in Barton County as of Tuesday. The candidate list for the General Election in November had two names, Alan Moeder and Davis Jimenez, running for the Great Bend Mayor position. Both Moeder and Jimenez currently serve on the Great Bend City Council.
Barton County Commissioner Shawn Hutchinson used Tuesday’s Commission meeting as one last chance to publicly remind everyone of the filing deadline.
"The best thing we could hope for is to have multiple candidates for each position that way there is a contested election in every race," said Hutchinson.
The filing deadline is Monday, June 2 at 12 p.m. at the Barton County Clerk's Office inside the Courthouse in Great Bend.
With seats up for election in each of the four wards, no one has filed for Ward 1 and Ward 2 on the Great Bend governing body. Nichelle Holinde has filed for Ward 3 and incumbent Rickee Maddox has filed for Ward 4.
In Hoisington, Mayor Chris Kinman has refiled and is unopposed.
In Ellinwood, Irlan Fullbright is also unopposed in his campaign for another term as mayor.
