The fantastic season compiled by the Barton Community College volleyball team ended in a 4th place finish on the final day of the NJCAA Division I Tournament as Colby Community College took the 3rd place trophy in four sets (25-17, 22-25, 29-27, 25-18). Exceeding their 6th seed, Barton completes the year 33-4 with Colby finishing at 29-5 after making their run from the 13th seeded team in the tournament and getting the final revenge to even the fellow Region 6 teams' season meetings at two victories each. The 24th national tournament appearance ended in the program's best since its 2003 national title year and matched the 1998 team for the best other finish of the last eleven trips to the big stage.
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — When Saquon Barkley glanced up at a SoFi Stadium replay of his latest huge run for the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night, he happened to see a graphic indicating he had 173 yards rushing — only 16 shy of what he knew to be his career high. “I said, ‘Aw, I wish I never saw that,’” Barkley said with a grin. “That’s just the devil talking, that’s how I look at it. ... I’m a big believer that if it happens, it happens. Just let it come to you.” Barkley decided to continue to run for his teammates, not for records. A few carries later, both his personal best and several additional superlatives fell right to him with his second massive touchdown run on a historic night. Barkley ran for scores of 70 and 72 yards in the second half and finished with an Eagles-record 255 yards rushing in Philadelphia’s seventh consecutive victory, 37-20 over the Los Angeles Rams.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Top-ranked South Carolina felt something it hasn’t known in over 2 1/2 years. The sting of defeat after being thoroughly dominated in a 77-62 loss to No. 5 UCLA on Sunday. Gone was the overall 43-game winning streak. Done was the run of 33 consecutive road victories. And the No. 1 ranking it’s held for 23 consecutive polls will disappear Monday. “This is what we usually do to teams,” coach Dawn Staley said. “We were on the receiving end of it.” South Carolina hadn’t lost since April 2023, when Caitlin Clark and Iowa beat the Gamecocks in the national semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.
LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — Austin Seibert choked back tears taking responsibility for missing the extra point that would have tied the score in the final minute. Jeremy Reaves choked back tears blaming himself for a missed assignment that led to a kickoff return touchdown. And John Bates choked back tears talking about moving forward from his costly fumble. All of those late mistakes contributed to the Washington Commanders’ third consecutive loss, 34-26 to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday in a game that was wholly unremarkable until fourth quarter chaos. The teams combined to score 31 points in the final four minutes, the most in an NFL game in more than a decade, and the Commanders (7-5) came out on the wrong end of it in a defeat that further endangers their playoff chances.
