Returning to dual action, the Barton Community College wrestling team split its pair of tussles Tuesday night in Parsons, Kansas, ending the night with a 26-20 victory over Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa following a 46-6 loss to No. 4 host Labette Community College.
Sitting at 2-4 in dual action, the Cougars will return to tournament action this Saturday to conclude a very busy month at the UNK Younes Hospitality Open held in Kearney, Nebraska.
Six different Cougars won a match on the evening as Barton went 6-4 against the Mavericks and 1-9 against the host Cardinals
Jamal Garrett 125 division delivered the lone perfect record in the Cougar lineup securing the lone win against the Cardinals with an open forfeit victory before scoring a 19-3 tech fall over NOC-Tonkawa's Dar'Quavion Jackson.
In a seesaw battle with the Mavericks over the opening five bouts, Ethan Boles 141-division and Kayden Blake 157-division joined Garrett with a pair of victories to gift Barton a slight 13-11 advantage at the midway point. Boles handed Barton a slight 10-5 lead behind his 17-0 shutout tech fall over Absalon Valencia with Blake edging out Max Rinehart by a 12-10 decision pushing Barton out to a 13-11 lead.
Dropping a 6-4 decision at the 165-division, Derek Truman put the Cougars back in the front seat at 17-14, scoring a 17-5 major decision in the 174-division over Tonkawa's Tyler Gettings.
In the 184-division, Edgar Duarte Quiroz picked up his third victory of the season collecting a second period fall over Xavier Hurtt increasing the Barton lead to 23-14.
Anchoring the lineup in the 285-division, Nathan Agudzi-Addo answered the call clinching the match victory with a 6-2 decision over the Mavericks Dennis Gonzalez after dropping a 9-6 decision to No. 5 ranked Gabe Kant of Labette in the opening dual.
In exhibition matches, Kaden Foster (174-division) split his pair of bouts regrouping with a 2:00 minute fall over Dennis Gonzalez after falling in 1:32 against Labette's Sam Duling.
