One of many projects the Great Bend Public Works department is working on is re-grading the ditch along the 281 Bypass in town. Through the years, the city has received a few complaints of ponding in the ditch.

Public Works Director Jason Cauley said crews are re-grading the surface and repairing collapsed culverts to allow water to run through more easily.

"We try to get around and do a project like this each year," said Cauley. "The last few years we haven't done any re-grading of ditches, but we try to do something every year. We try to keep a schedule."

In the process, crews will remove the silt that builds up over the years.

At the moment, there is one excavator and one truck driver handling the project. Cauley expected the project to last a couple of months.
