As National Agriculture Week unfolds, Great Bend High School’s Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter is proud to reflect on a year filled with impactful projects and community outreach. Under the leadership of club sponsor Robin Linsner, GBHS FFA students have engaged in various activities promoting agricultural education and community service.

One of the chapter’s most significant events of the year was Kids Ag Day in September, an initiative designed to educate youth about the importance of agriculture. Throughout the year, FFA members have continued this mission by bringing Ag in the Classroom programs to local elementary schools. These visits help young students understand the role of agriculture beyond traditional farming and ranching.

In recent weeks, FFA members visited two area elementary schools to engage third graders in livestock identification. Students participated in a hands-on ear tag keychain activity and learned about animal care through the story of Pistol, a two-day-old orphaned bucket calf. The GBHS FFA team visited Lincoln Elementary in Great Bend on February 27th and Lincoln Elementary in Hoisington on March 3rd, with active participation from Bristen Wuller, Beth Hammeke, Kylie McCormick, Kylee Miessler, Alex Grabast, Caitlyn Roach, Layne Soukup, Ryann Stryker, and Savanah Tutak.

Beyond education, GBHS FFA remains dedicated to community service. One of the chapter’s most cherished traditions is preparing Thanksgiving baskets for elderly and needy families. Each year, students personally purchase, package, and deliver these baskets just before Thanksgiving, ensuring families in need receive a helping hand during the holiday season. This year’s volunteers included Alex Grabast, Caitlyn Roach, Kylie McCormick, Kylee Miessler, Beth Hammeke, Ryann Stryker, Riata Stryker, and Layne Soukup.

“Our goal is not only to educate but to give back,” said Robin Linsner. “Agriculture is a vital part of our community, and it’s inspiring to see our students take pride in making a difference—whether by teaching younger students or supporting families in need.”

As the chapter looks ahead, GBHS FFA is eager to expand its Ag in the Classroom efforts and continue serving the community through innovative projects. National Ag Week serves as the perfect backdrop to celebrate the dedication of these young agricultural leaders who are ensuring the future of farming and ag-related industries remains strong.
