The Great Bend City Council voted 7-0 this week to demolish a mobile home on Locust Street that was deemed to be unsafe. Code Enforcement Supervisor Art Keffer brought the 214 Locust location to the council’s attention in early January. A public hearing was scheduled for this past Tuesday and allowed owners or citizens with an interest in the property to speak.

With windows and doors missing, siding ripped off and the roof mostly removed, Keffer said the structure needs to be removed.

"I don't believe anyone is trying to live in it," said Keffer. "I believe the owner has tried to dismantle it, but they've stopped. It's more of an eyesore than anything. It's something that needs to be removed. If anyone got in there, as far as kids go, I would hate to see them fall through anything or get cut on anything."

Keffer added the interior of the mobile home appears to be completely gutted. In January, the owner of the property stated the mobile home is not his.
