Esports caps final week with 7-3 mark

The final push for the spring postseason wrapped up last week for the Barton Community College sports program with the Cougars.

Barton will send its Fortnite squad, NBA2K duo and top Madden 21 and Smash gamerss into the playoffs slated to begin on April 20th at 4:00 p.m.

The Cougars conclude the spring portion of the regular season with a 38-41 mark while turning in a final week mark of 7-3.

Last week's results saw a clean 3-0 sweep in NBA2K action. Ranked 6th in the nation Anthony Twiggs stretched his winning streak to eight straight winning comfortably 2-0 over Bryant-Stratton. The win secured Twiggs the sixth seed in the NBA2K bracket that kicks off next Thursday. Teammate Cesar Robles squeezed his name into the postseason with a 2-0 victory over Borough of Manhattan Community College claiming the final spot in the 16-team bracket. Brayden Clare concluded the Barton 2K action with a cruise control 2-0 victory over Bryant-Stratton capping his season record at 4-4.

Ranked 58th nationally, Landon Robl earned a hard fought triumph over Carl Albert State 4-3 in Smash Brothers. Improving his season record to 6-3 on the year, Robl will open the Barton postseason Tuesday night. Bryce Boltman and Trent Keffer saw their seasons conclude dropping their contests 0-4 to Carl Albert State College and Central Wyoming College respectively.

Davon Morris, already having a postseason berth locked up in Madden 21 will look to bounceback from a disappointing end to the regular season in dropping his last contest 2-0 to Lakewood University. Morris will look to better his third place fall finish beginning on Thursday in the opening round of the Madden 21 bracket.

Looking to make a deep postseason run in Fortnite will be Adam Hardin and Elijah Payne both earning bids in solo and doubles action. The duo will compete in the NJCAA Nationals and PlayVS League beginning a week from Saturday on April 26th.

Seeing their season come to a close, the Cougars Call of Duty Cold War, Overwatch and Rocket League teams ended the year on a high notes with victories.
