Great Bend's Party in the Park is supposed to be the final big bash of summer. Last year, temperatures in the 70s and rain put some gloom into the glam. Party in the Park returns to Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday, Aug. 9, and Great Bend Rec Sports Director Shane Sandberg said the popular OozeFest Volleyball Tournament also returns to the park.
"It's a big event for us in the summer," he said. "It's really our main affiliation with Party in the Park. We went out to the fairgrounds last year and still had a good turnout, but we pulled some of the crowd away from the actual park at Vets. So we are moving it back to Vets this year."
City of Great Bend staff builds the volleyball pits, and GBRC staff puts up the nets and runs the tournament. Last year's event featured 14 adult and 14 youth teams. The deadline to register and get a free t-shirt is July 20. The final deadline to register without the free shirt is Aug. 9.
"It's $80 per team, like it was last year," Sandberg said. "You can have up to eight members on a team but only six will play at a time. If you're under 18, you'll sign a waiver with us."
