If you have old or broken electronic products cluttering up your house, there is a convenient place to drop them off in Great Bend. The Rosewood Services' ECycle facility at 2200 Main Street has a 24-hour drop-off box. If you need help unloading items, the Rosewood ECycle team is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

A wide variety of products can be recycled, according to Duane Dipman, Rosewood's ECycle manager.

“We had one of the hospitals bring us a sonogram the other day and we took that apart,” Dipman said. “We’ve had people bring us dryers and treadmills and exercise bikes, anything that we can get metal or copper or wire or anything else.

“Anything with hazardous waste or anything with refrigerant or mercury or something like that, we don’t take that apart. But we’re almost taking apart anything.”

As people are decorating for the holidays, they may have Christmas lights and other e-decorations that need to be replaced. Those old items can be dropped off at the ECyling center.

Recycling computers can often be a concern for many people, but Dipman says the information stored on those devices will not be compromised.

“We will take the hard drive all the way down,” Dipman explained. “Most of them are aluminum, and I actually bend them in half. Some of them are porcelain and we shatter them. That's the first thing we do is destroy the hard drives so we protect people’s data. That’s very important to us.”

Dipman points out that Rosewood works hand-in-hand with the Barton County landfill. Some of the electronics dropped off there are brought to Rosewood while excess plastic that cannot be recycled at Rosewood is handled by landfill employees.
