Cougars sweep KJCCC honors, Tsuji earns second NJCAA National Player of the Week

Following a pair of nationally ranked victories on the week, the No. 4 Barton Community College men's soccer team swept the Week 9 Kansas Jayhawk Conference Player of the Week awards, with Masaki Tsuji and Gabriel Bergamin earning the league's top honors. Tsuji was additionally named the NJCAA Division I National Player of the Week for the second time this season, marking Barton's third national award of the year.

Picking up victories over No. 11 Dodge City and No. 3 Cowley, the duo helped extend the Cougars' winning streak to six straight contests as Barton continued its climb up the national rankings.

Tsuji captured both nods following a pair of game-winning goals that lifted the Cougars to victories over the ranked opponents. The freshman forward netted the deciding strike in the 3-2 victory against Dodge City before breaking a scoreless second half in Barton's 1-0 triumph over Cowley.

Across the two matches, Tsuji totaled nine shots with five on frame and extended his scoring streak to now five consecutive matches and six of Barton's last seven contests. The honors mark his third KJCCC weekly selection and second national award of the season.

Bergamin collected his second Goalkeeper of the Week distinction of the year following a clutch performance in the Cougars' 1-0 win over No. 3 Cowley. Making his eighth start of the season, the sophomore turned aside both shots faced over 90 minutes of action to record his second clean sheet while anchoring the Barton backline that handed the Tigers their first blemish of the season.

On the year, Bergamin owns a 6-1-0 record in net with a .810 save percentage across eight appearances.

Following a perfect 3-0 week, Barton will return to the pitch Wednesday evening at 5:00 p.m., traveling to face Coffeyville Community College. The Cougars enter the contest with a 8-1-1 mark in conference play and 11-2-1 overall record.
