Mary Ann (Hertel) Dinkel of Victoria, age 97, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Hays Medical Center, Hays.
She was born Oct. 29, 1926, on the family farm near Munjor to Alex A. and Margaret (Pfannenstiel) Hertel. She married George F. Dinkel on May 11, 1964, at Victoria. He preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 2020.
Mary Ann was homemaker, a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis, and St. Fidelis Christian Mothers, and was a volunteer on the funeral dinner committee.
She attended grade school in Ness City, high school at Sacred Heart Academy in Wichita, and the Sacred Heart College / Newman University. Prior to her marriage she taught school in Carlsbad, N.M., and Holcomb. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, sewing and loved to dance.
Mary Ann is survived by her children, Mark Dinkel and wife, Cindy, Hays; Cheryl Downes and husband, Charles, Council Grove; her grandchildren, Megan Schroeder (Josh); Michael Dinkel; Ashleigh Dooley (Steven); Rhiannon Chestnut (Bryan); Makenzie Newby (Rhett); Lakoddah Downes; her great-grandchildren, Angelina, Riley, Elaina, Scarlet, Sienna and Fulton Schroeder; and Paysleigh and Hadleigh Dooley; her brother-in-law, Father Harvey Dinkel O.F.O. Cap. Victoria.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex A. and Margaret Hertel; her husband, George F.; her brothers, Edmund “Ed” Hertel; Edwin “Eddie” Hertel; Wilfred Hertel; Alfred “Al” Hertel; Joseph Hertel; her sisters, Celestina Hertel; Marcella Hertel; Martina Burkhardt; Regina Dome; Agnes Beckerdite; and one infant brother.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 9 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2024, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis, 900 Cathedral Ave., Victoria, with concelebrants, Father Harvey Dinkel O.F.M. Cap. and Father James Moster O.F.M. Cap. The burial will be in Saint Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria, Kansas.
A vigil service and a St. Fidelis Christian Mothers rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary, Victoria.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary and from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis.
