Great Bend Volleyball continued its success as a program Tuesday night, as the Panthers completed their 4th straight run to a WAC title. As the girls raised the trophy for the 4th year in a row, they did so surrounded by a new coaching staff.

Head coach Tina Johnson took over the program at the start of the season, having left coaching and moving to full-time officiating a few years ago. She said the reason she came in and the reason the team has continued the success is the leadership of this senior class.

"Honestly, they're relentless. They have a lot of grit. They work hard. They're honestly a dream come true, if you want to know the truth." Johnson said. "They are more than just players, they're great leaders. I can't wait to see where they go in life, because Great Bend High School is really going to miss this senior group. They're not only great volleyball players and great athletes, but they're great human beings. They're being such good role models for our younger kids."

Seniors Kya Behr and Alex Mayers agree. Their careers have been a dream come true.

"Honestly, like Johnson said, it's a dream come true." said Behr. "I never expected my senior year to be as great as it is now, with this coaching staff and these girls that I love. Looking back, my freshman year to now. It's just a dream come true and there's  no other words to say it, other than I'm just thankful. Honestly, God is good, and he did good things with this group."

Mayers agreed. "This senior year has been one of the best. We just have an amazing group of girls, great coaches. We just have to be grateful and thankful for everything we've been given."

Great Bend travels to face Phillipsburg and Smiths Center Thursday, October 15th, before regionals next week.
