Everybody likes a yard sale. On Oct. 3 and 4, USD 428 held a surplus sale for district employees and the public. The sale raised funds for the district and moved items no longer in use, but it also emptied the former bus barn located at 2019 12th Street in downtown Great Bend. During Monday's board of education meeting, Assistant Superintendent John Popp said the district can now sell the building.

"The opinion of value from the appraisal is $130,000," he said. "I will say we've had a number of people reaching out about this property so we would like to release bids."

The district recently sold the former district education center on Patton Road and is in the process of selling the former central kitchen building on Broadway Ave. Popp said the district will first attempt a sale of the bus barn by sealed bid.

"We would like to ask for bids after this meeting up until Nov. 6 at 1 p.m., then we would present those bids to you at your next board meeting, whatever we get," he said. "If we don't get bids, we will turn around and list the property or something like that, but we anticipate we will get bids for this property."

Popp reiterated the building will be sold as is, where is, with no warranties implied or expressed. Those conditions are not specific to the building at 2019 12th Street but Popp said the conditions were not clearly stated with the last sale.
