The Barton Community College men's golf team concluded its fall season Tuesday with a third-place finish at the two-day Braves Invitational hosted by Ottawa University held at Eagle Bend Golf Course in Lawrence.
Barton opened Monday's competition with a 306 to sit fourth after the first round before climbing into third with a second-round 301. With the second round suspended by darkness Monday and completed Tuesday morning, the Cougars maintained their position with another 301 in the final round to finish at 44-over 908.
Host Ottawa University captured the team championship at 22-over 886, followed by Hesston College at 29-over 893. Barton finished 16 strokes ahead of fourth-place Crowder College in the 12-team field.
Hein van den Berg led the Cougar contingent with a fourth-place finish, displaying remarkable consistency across the 54 holes with rounds of 73, 74 and 73 to finish at 4-over 220.
Kobey Jackson provided Barton a second top-12 finisher, carding matching 75s around a second-round 77 to place 12th at 11-over 227.
Phattarapol Ongla rebounded from a difficult opening round of 84, shaving 12 strokes off his score with an even-par 72 in the second round before closing with a 76 to finish tied for 17th at 16-over 232.
Antonio Vidal finished tied for 21st at 17-over 233, posting rounds of 76, 78 and 79, while Landon Timmermeyer steadily improved throughout the tournament, trimming his score each round with an 82, 78 and 77 to finish 28th at 21-over 237.
The tournament concludes Barton's fall schedule, highlighted by consecutive third-place finishes at the Bethel Fall Invitational and Ottawa Invitational.
