Arlene Marie Karlin, 88, passed away on April 12, 2023, at Ellinwood District Hospital, Ellinwood, Kan. She was born on December 14, 1934, in Pfeifer, Kan., to Joseph and Veronica (Befort) Dome. On November 13, 1954, she was married to Leroy Karlin in Pfeifer, Kan. He passed on April 11, 2001.
A resident of Great Bend since 1959 coming from Ellis County, Arlene was a homemaker. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish, Altar Society, and Daughters of Isabella. Arlene volunteered with the Church bringing communion to those home bound, adoration chapel, prayer, and pro-life advocacy. She also volunteered with Birth Right, at CKMC and later St. Rose Pavillion at the gift shop, as well as a Girl Scout Leader. Arlene was dedicated to her family and faith throughout her life.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry (Judy) Karlin of Shawnee, Kan., and Joe (Amy) Karlin of Lenexa, Kan.; three daughters, Mary (Mel) Waite of Ellinwood, Kan., Susan (Rodney) Broeckelman of Mankato, Kan, and Jean (Joe) Scarfino of St. Louis, Mo.; twenty-two grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren with one on the way; and three sisters, Virginia Kisner, Shirley Gregory and Fran Hunter. She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a grandson, Thomas Joseph Karlin; two brothers, Joseph and Vernon Dome; and a sister, Ruby Karlin.
Visitation will take place on Friday, April 14, 2023, from Noon to 8:00 p.m. with family receiving guests from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Altar Society Rosary at 4:00 p.m., and Vigil with Rosary at 7:00 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2023, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend with Father Prakash Kola presiding. Interment will follow at St. Severin Cemetery in Ellis Co., Kan., at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to Prince of Peace Parish or Kansans for Life, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
