Earlier announced by the Virgin Island Track and Field Federation, their 2024 National Championships has been named this year after Tabarie Henry in recognition for his accomplishments and representation of the country.
Native of St. Thomas of the Virgin Islands, Henry began his collegiate career at Barton Community College competing for the Cougars in the 2008 and 2009 seasons before continuing at Texas A&M University.
"This recognition is not just about me," Henry said. "It is a tribute to the countless hours of hard work, the unwavering support of my family and mentors, and the spirit of camaraderie that thrives within the Virgin Islands athletics community. It is a testament to the power of sport to unite people, build character, and create lasting memories."
While at Barton, Henry was a 6-time NJCAA Champion in leaving his name etched on multiple indoor and outdoor program top ten slots, notably as a 400m specialist in ranking 2nd in Cougar history behind fellow Olympian Derrick Brew. Henry is also on multiple NJCAA all-time best lists including currently fourth in the 400m with Brew still atop the chart.
Moving on to Texas A&M, Henry was a 7-time NCAA All-America performer, as well as, has successfully competed in regional and world championships with multiple Virgin Island records while representing his native country including in the 2008 and 2012 Olympic games.
Transitioning into coaching, Henry has helped the programs at New Mexico Junior College and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) earning many coaching accolades along with numerous successes performed by his athletes.
