From UWCK

What would it take to move our community from simply surviving to truly thriving? United Way of Central Kansas (UWCK) wants to hear from you.

UWCK is encouraging community members to share their thoughts on the challenges, needs, and opportunities affecting health and well-being across Barton and Pawnee Counties. These conversations will help prepare for the upcoming Leading Health Workshop on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2027, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Forge in Great Bend.

The workshop will bring together community members, organizations, businesses, and local leaders to explore challenges, identify opportunities, and discuss ways to build a healthier, stronger Central Kansas.

But the conversation starts now.

UWCK encourages residents to consider a few important questions:

路 What are the biggest challenges facing individuals and families in our communities?

路 What barriers keep people from moving beyond just getting by?

路 What resources or services are missing in our area?

路 What is our community already doing well, and how can we build on those strengths?

Health is about more than medical care. Access to affordable housing, transportation, nutritious food, financial stability, and community support all play important roles in helping individuals and families live healthier lives.

"We know there are people in our communities who face challenges every day that others may not even realize exist," said Charell Owings, Executive Director of United Way of Central Kansas. "We want to hear from the people experiencing those challenges, as well as those who see them firsthand. Sometimes the best ideas come from simply listening to one another."

Community members are encouraged to visit www.uwck.org/Workshop to share their thoughts through a short online form. Whether it's a challenge you've experienced, a need you've noticed, or an idea for making our community stronger, your input matters.

UWCK welcomes feedback that is constructive, empathetic, and free of judgment, recognizing that everyone's experiences and circumstances are different. Residents do not need to attend the workshop to have their voices heard.

The Leading Health Workshop will build on these community conversations, bringing people together to explore solutions and opportunities for collaboration. To share your thoughts and help shape a healthier Central Kansas, visit www.uwck.org/Workshop.
