Crews have been preparing the house for weeks and now moving day has finally arrived for the structure at 2526 Broadway Avenue in Great Bend. With the owners choosing to relocate the home to a property in the rural part of the county, crews have elevated the three-story home and will make its route out of town Tuesday (Dec. 7) morning.
Great Bend City Administrator Kendal Francis warns
everyone to pay attention to your driving between 7 a.m. - 9 a.m. throughout
the area.
"We understand people would probably like to see this, but we encourage people to divert away from that," said Francis. "From the 7-9 a.m. timeframe, traffic through that area is going to be less than conducive."
The house, already elevated on beams and loaded on a trailer, will be
transported from its Broadway location toward Washington Avenue. Several road
closures and safety measures will take place to ensure its route south down
Washington and out of the county.
"There was a lot of discussion about this project, but it's the private individual's rights," said Francis. "We're going to help accommodate this the best we can."
Francis added the city has procedures in place for possible damage and fees for
traffic control which will be assessed to the property owners.
