There were 34 cities across Kansas that were selected to receive a total of $28.65 million for improvements to state highways located within city limits.
Great Bend was chosen to receive $400,000 for the 2024 fiscal year for work on
two major highways in town. The grants are awarded through the Kansas
Department of Transportation’s City Connecting Link Improvement Program
(CCLIP).
Great Bend City Administrator Kendal Francis said the project will include
pavement improvements to portions of U.S. 281 Highway and U.S 56 Highway, or
Patton Road.
"This will mill and overlay U.S. 281, from the river bridge north to 2nd Street," said Francis. "It will also include a portion of Patton Road, from 10th Street to the city limits."
For this CCLIP cycle applying for state dollars, KDOT received 54 applications
requesting $38 million.
