
Great Bend Post Sports
Some of the same names made for a tough field at the Wichita Heights Girls' Varsity Wrestling Invitational Saturday. Top-ranked Dodge City (6-5A) scored 179.5 points to win the team standings. No. 7 Chanunte (4-1A) finished second with 140 points, and No. 7 Great Bend scored 129 points to beat Derby by six points for third place.
Second-ranked Daizy Gomez reached a milestone in her championship bid at 130 pounds. The senior made quick work of all three of her opponents to win the bracket, earning her 100th career victory in the process. Gomez needed just 34 seconds to pin Maize's Emma Vogel in the title match.
Third-ranked Kaylea McMullen had a big day at 125 pounds. The sophomore pinned each of her first three opponents with two wins coming in 60 seconds or fewer. McMullen edged out a 4-3 win against Kapaun's Va Le-Do in the championship match.

Sixth-ranked Camdyn Post made it to the finals at 105 pounds. The freshman pinned her first opponent, then won a 14-3 major against Dodge City to reach the finals. There, she was pinned by third-ranked Amara Ehsa from Derby in the second period.
Keira Leyva also made the finals at 110 pounds. She pinned opponents from Wichita South and Northwest in 79 seconds or less to reach the title match. Top-ranked Ashley Alonso of Dodge City pinned Leyva in the first period to claim the championship.
Sophomore Braelyn Turner finished third at 120 pounds. After a bye, she needed just 67 seconds to pin her next opponent from Wichita West. Turner was pinned by the eventual runner-up from Northwest but rebounded with a 73-second pin against Wichita South. Turner captured third place with an 86-second pin against Heights' Jada Reed.
Kirra Stevens placed third at 170 pounds. She had a tough draw against sixth-ranked Chinyereug Okafor from Kapaun in round two. Stevens pinned her next four opponents with two matches going no longer than 33 seconds. She avenged the early loss by pinning Okafor in the third-place match.
Josephine Blevins came up a win shy of the consolation finals at 145 pounds. She pinned her first opponent before getting pinned by the eventual runner-up from Wichita North. On the back side, Blevins was pinned by the fourth-place finisher from Chanute.
At 100 pounds, freshman Trinaty Aumiller lost her first match to the eventual runner-up from Wichita Northwest. After a pair of byes, Aumiller was defeated by the eventual third-place finisher from Chanute in the consolation semifinals.
Kaydence Demel placed fifth at 135 pounds with an 0-4 showing. That bracket featured a pair of ranked wrestlers from Dodge City and Chanute. Danica Cline lost her two contested matches at 155 pounds in a bracket that featured two of the top-three ranked girls in 6-5A.
