National Library Week begins on Sunday, April 3 this year. A week is set aside every April by the National Library Association to encourage people to read as well as support their local libraries.

Gail Santy is the Director of the Great Bend Public Library and the Central Kansas Library System. She wants people to know that the library in Great Bend has returned to normal as the COVID-19 pandemic has subsided.

“We have no restrictions on patron use expect that every other computer is still closed to allow for that social distancing there,” Santy said.

She added that the meeting rooms at the library have also been reopened.

When the building was closed during the pandemic, the library received a grant to add additional online services. According to Santy, using those services has become increasingly popular.

"Some of the best library supporters don’t ever actually visit the library.”

Over 7,000 people currently have library cards in Great Bend. Anyone wanting a library card can get one by filling out an application and showing proof of residence. It provides online access as well as the materials and services housed inside the library.
