Moderate Democrats Add Division Over Infrastructure Packages
Last Friday, nine moderate democrats in the House threatened to withhold support for the $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation package containing many of the Administration's priorities until the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package was signed into law. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has remained consistent in her plans to move the two pieces of legislation forward together, but with no republican support for the budget reconciliation package, the votes from moderate democrats are instrumental for the bills passage. Sorghum Industry Partners with University of California to Advance Sorghum
The United Sorghum Checkoff Program (USCP), the University of California, Merced, and the University of California Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources announced a five year partnership to promote drought resilience in sorghum and increase demand for the cereal crop in biofuel and bioproduct markets. The program represents the first collaboration of its kind between the Sorghum Checkoff and the University of California, and key activities will include breeding, gene discovery, phenotyping and research related to the impacts of roots, soil microbes, photosynthesis and management on drought resilience as well as biofuel and bioproduct usage. Sorghum Crop Progress Report
The U.S. Department of Agriculture Weekly Crop Progress Report said by August 15, eighty-two percent of the nation’s sorghum had reached the headed stage, 1 percentage point ahead of last year and 3 points ahead of the five-year average. Thirty-one percent of the sorghum was at or beyond the coloring stage by August 15, two percentage points behind last year and 5 points behind average. Sixty percent of the nation’s sorghum was rated in good to excellent condition on August 15, three percentage points below the previous week but 3 points above the same time last year.
