The new school year is just around the corner, and all the students are ready to show off their new school clothes. The schools want to look nice as well. Jefferson Elementary School in Great Bend is currently seeking donations to replace the sign in front of its facility.
"The sign we had in front before that we took out was no longer working," said Jefferson Principal Adam Niedens. "It was one of those automated, electronic ones and scrolled across information on there. Since it wasn't working, we figured let's not go back to the electronic route and spend all that money on that since we we're able to put out everything on social media, or send parents text messages and emails and all those alerts, basically the same stuff you would scroll across the sign."
The school approached Mark's Custom Signs with the idea of a new sign, and Mark's provided several options. A winning design was voted on for a sign just over five feet high with a price tag of $12,000. Into the month of August, the school was still several thousand dollars short of purchasing the sign.
"We take a lot of pride in our building here as staff members," Niedens said. "I feel like our parents and family members of our school take a lot of pride in our school as well, and wanted something out front that represents us and the school well."
Donations for the sign can be made to the USD 428 Education Foundation, 201 S Patton Road, Great Bend. Checks should have "Jefferson Sign" in the memo line. Online donations may be made by CLICKING HERE.
