The City of Great Bend staff has been working with Athco for the design and construction of a new splash pad to be installed on the north side of Veterans Memorial Park. The first design for the $680,000 project was released and will go before the Great Bend City Council next Monday for approval.
The project
will be funded through the .15% quality of life sales tax and Mayor Cody Schmidt
felt the size of the project was the right fit.
"You can always scale that project back and end up with a $300,000 or $400,000 splash pad, but our thought is to do it right the first time," said Schmidt. "We don't want to have to go back and add on because it's too small or there's not enough features for the kids to play."

The proposed size of the splash pad is roughly 50’ x 70’ and will provide
nearly 2,500 square feet of splash pad area. Earlier this spring, city
administration noted they would like to have the splash pad installed by next
May.
The city council meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, June 19 at City Hall.
