SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Wilmer Flores hit a grand slam in the first inning and matched his career high with six RBIs as the San Francisco Giants snapped out of their offensive funk and beat the St. Louis Cardinals 13-7 to end a five-game losing streak. On a day the Giants honored former catcher Buster Posey in a pregame ceremony, Mauricio Dubón and Darin Ruf also homered. Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina reached 1,000 career RBIs. Dylan Carlson added a three-run homer, but St. Louis committed three errors and ended its three-game winning streak.
BALTIMORE (AP) — A second straight game between the Baltimore Orioles and Kansas City Royals has been postponed because of rain. The teams also had a game Friday night called off, one of six games around the major leagues that were rained out that night. That was the most in a day because of inclement weather since 2018. This is Kansas City’s only scheduled visit to Baltimore this season. The Royals and Orioles will try to play a straight doubleheader Sunday, then another game Monday afternoon on what was a mutual off day.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — College sports leaders visited Capitol Hill, asking lawmakers to consider rules to govern name, image and likeness money for college athletes. Greg Sankey of the SEC and George Kliavkoff of the Pac-12 were scheduled to meet with lawmakers on both sides of aisle. The NCAA is trying to clarify existing rules to prevent boosters from being involved in recruiting. College sports leaders are skeptical about the NCAA's ability to crack down in so-called collectives founded by wealthy boosters.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The Golden State Warriors have rebounded from their Game 2 loss by blowing out the Memphis Grizzlies, 142-112. Golden State actually trailed by seven at halftime before torching Memphis for 78 points the rest of the way, giving the Warriors a 2-1 lead in the NBA's Western Conference semifinals. Steph Curry dropped in 30 points in 35 minutes, while fellow Splash Brother Klay Thompson had 21 points and nine rebounds. Jordan Poole chipped in 27 points off the bench.
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee has a 2-1 series lead in the NBA's Eastern Conference semifinals after Giannis Antetokounmpo made the go-ahead basket with 44.3 seconds left before the Bucks hung on for a 103-101 win over the Celtics. Antetokounmpo finished with 42 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists, while Jrue Holiday provided 25 points. The Celtics missed three putbacks in the final 4.6 and had a potential tying bucket waved off because it came after the final horn.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Rich Strike came charging up the rail to overtake the leaders in the closing strides for a stunning 80-1 upset in the Kentucky Derby. Jockey Sonny Leon guided Rich Strike from well back in the 20-horse field to run by 4-1 favorite Epicenter and Zandon at Churchill Downs. Rich Strike wasn’t even in the Derby field until Friday when Ethereal Road was scratched. Rich Strike triggered the second-biggest upset in the race’s 148-year history, paying $163.60 to win.
