While the City of Great Bend has plans for a much bigger street repair project this year, a small portion of their budget will go toward making alleyway improvements. The Great Bend City Council approved a bid from Venture Corporation to repair 4,134 square yards of asphalt at a price of $146,430.

Public Works Director Jason Cauley said the alleys that were chosen for this project are existing asphalt alleys that have had temporary patching done multiple times throughout the years.

"The idea is that if we repair these alleyways with this minimal overlay, that we can maybe extend the life of those alleyways," said Cauley. "This would prevent us from having to repair these. Instead of pothole patching alleyways, we can spend our time pothole patch streets."

Venture Corporation submitted the lone bid for the project, and the cost will be split between two funding sources with $40,000 coming from the street fund and $106,430 being paid from the sales tax infrastructure fund.
