Stuff the Bus with United Way of Central Kansas is back this year and is hoping to double their impact. Volunteers will be out at both Dillons locations and Walmart in Great Bend on July 22 asking shoppers to pick up school supplies. Backpacks with supplies will be assembled and distributed to schools to give to families in need.

United Way Executive Director Charell Owings said the Stuff the Bus campaign is focusing on school supplies only this year.

"In the past, we've worked with our agencies to get the supplies they need," said Owings. "That hasn't been as much of a need for them in the past couple of years. We're going to focus on school supplies for students. We want to double the amount of backpacks we give out to 250 hopefully.

Shoppers can donate the school supplies at Walmart and the Dillons locations from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on July 22 or they can drop off donations at Sunflower Bank or the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce during the month of July.

"We also need volunteers," said Owings. "If people don't want to shop, they give monetarily and we'll go do the shopping."

Those who are needing backpacks for their students can reach out to their school after Aug. 10.
