One of the big New Year's resolutions each year is to be healthier. Those who smoke and vape know how difficult it can be to make changes. The Kansas Tobacco Quitline is again offering assistance. Barton County Health Department Public Health Educator Katelyn Sigler said the start of the New Year is a perfect opportunity to give the program a try.
"Right now, the Quitline has a great opportunity for people wanting to quit with the New Year," she said. "They have six weeks of free nicotine replacement therapy. I know a lot of insurance companies don't always cover nicotine replacement therapy. If people are looking to start Quit, this would be a great time."
KanQuit offers coaching over the phone, online, or via text messaging. They offer replacement therapy in the form of gum, pouches, or lozenges. Statistics show that people who use replacement therapy and phone coaching are twice as likely to quit. Sigler said taking action now makes sense for your health and your checkbook.
"Imagine that extra cash in your pocket by cutting out those expensive cigarettes," she said. "Then the empowerment it gives you. Breaking free from smoking is a powerful act of self-love and self-care. Giving yourself that opportunity to kick off a journey toward a healthier and happier life is always a good choice for the New Year."
The Kansas Tobacco Quitline is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Find out more or sign up by calling 1-800-QUIT NOW (800-784-8669) or by visiting ksquit.org.
