Venture Corporation is scheduled to start the City of Great Bend’s 2026 Asphalt Resurfacing Project on Monday, July 20. Residents and visitors should expect temporary traffic disruptions in work zones throughout the duration of the project.

Crews will begin on Washington Street and Paseo Drive, then progress to Frey Street, followed by 16th Street, Morton Street, 12th Street, Monroe Street, Harrison Street and Broadway Avenue, before completing the project on Patton Road.Streets selected for the project were chosen based on the city’s highest-volume roadways while also prioritizing improvements to residential areas.

Asphalt Resurfacing Streets:

  1. Patton Road (10th Street to K-96)
  2. Broadway Avenue (Polk Street to McKinley Street)
  3. Harrison Street (Broadway Avenue to 21st Street)
  4. Monroe Street (10th Street to Broadway Avenue)

Repaving projects improve roadway structural integrity, enhance ride quality and increase safety and traffic flow. Preventive maintenance and scheduled resurfacing help avoid costly reconstruction while extending pavement lifespan by 10 to 20 years.

As a part of the Pavement Management Program, JEO Consulting Group evaluated every street in Great Bend in 2025 and assigned the city an overall pavement condition rating of 77.7 on a scale of 0 to 100.One of Great Bend’s most valuable assets, the total 121 miles of paved public streets has an estimated value of $374 million in pavement. Street improvements are planned and funded annually through the dedicated one-quarter cent sales tax as approved by voters in 2017.In addition to the resurfacing project, 13 residential streets and roadway segments are scheduled to receive chip/fog seal treatments in mid-September. This process helps preserve road quality, extends lifespans and protects underlying pavement by creating a waterproof barrier.

Chip/Fog Seal Streets:

  1. Sunset Road
  2. Sunset Place
  3. Zarah Drive
  4. Cheyenne Drive
  5. Shawnee Drive
  6. Walnut Drive
  7. Pawnee Road
